Chinese Checkers Rules

The rules of Chinese Checkers are simple to learn but offer deep strategy, especially in multiplayer games. Use this page as the clear rules reference for CloudGamesApp and standard Chinese Checkers play.

Objective

Move all of your pieces from your starting triangle into the opposite destination triangle before your opponents do.

Board and Player Counts

The board is a six-pointed star. Chinese Checkers is commonly played with 2, 3, 4, or 6 players, and CloudGamesApp also supports a 5-player unbalanced mode.

Legal Moves

On your turn, you may move one piece in one of two ways:

  • Step to an adjacent empty space.
  • Hop over an adjacent occupied piece into the empty space directly beyond it.

A hopped-over piece is not captured. This is a race game, not a capture game.

Multiple Hops

If after one hop your piece can make another legal hop, you may continue hopping in the same turn. Multiple-hop turns are often the strongest moves available.

Turn Order

Players take turns in sequence. In the online version, the room host starts the game after enough players join, and the active turn rotates automatically.

Winning Condition

You finish when all of your pieces are inside the destination triangle. In multiplayer online games, when one player finishes, the remaining unfinished players can continue playing until only one unfinished player remains.

Online Room Rules on CloudGamesApp

  • Players can join while the room is waiting.
  • The host starts the game manually.
  • After the game starts, new visitors can join as spectators only.
  • Disconnected players can lose by forfeit if they do not return in time.
